REVIEW: Lime Crime Venus II Palette.

Hello, loves! I’ve been meaning to write this review forever now but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet, so here it is finally!

The Venus II palette is like the Venus palette’s darker, more rebellious older teen sister, or at least that’s how I see it. The artwork is the same except a few colour changes and background changes, although weirdly I feel like this red theme works with the first palette and the original blue works for this one, but that’s just my brain connecting colours. The palettes are stunning and I really like how unique the artwork and the whole palette is, they’re not your usual everyday palettes and I love that!

NOTE: when I say a shadow is “scratchy” I DO NOT mean it is painful/uncomfortable; it’s just not as buttery and smooth as the others. They still feel lovely but you can just feel a little grit from the pigments.

PIGEON: The first shade in the palette is my absolute favourite shade in the palette for sure; it looks green at first glance but shifts to brown in the light (duochrome), which I didn’t realise until I swatched it and gasped “oh my god it’s beautiful!“. It’s a really pigmented shade and feels buttery and smooth when swatched.

FILTER: Filter is slightly less pigmented and a tiny bit rougher. It’s a really unique shade that builds to a beautiful sky blue.

MARSH: Marsh is smooth, buttery and pigmented. It’s an olive green shade with a gold shift. I felt like when I first saw it that it would end up looking muddy but it blends out beautifully!

MUSTARD: Mustard is beautiful, it’s exactly what the name says: mustard. Maybe not everyone’s favourite colour but I personally find it stunning, plus it works on all eye colours! It is a little ‘scratchier’ than the others and it’s not as pigmented but it is buildable, which I think makes it a perfect crease/transition shade.

FLY: Fly is so so so stunning! I don’t really know how to describe the colour accurately but the best I can do is yellow with gold flecks. It’s so smooth and buttery to apply and it comes out even and pigmented. Although it is a shimmer shade it’s not chunky at all (none of the shades in this palette are chunky, actually).

JAM: Jam is one of my favourite shades in the palette, but unfortunately it comes out a little patchy when swatched and even a tiny bit dry, bur it can be built up nicely.

MUD: Mud is extremely pigmented, smooth, buttery and not patchy at all. It’s a deep browny-red shade that’s perfect to blend into the crease and outer V.

BOOT: Boot is the shadow in this palette that I was looking forward to most but was, unfortunately, disappointed with. When you look at it in the pan it is like a black hole full of stars, but when swatched it isn’t as pigmented as hoped and comes out a little grey, and not much sparkle. I tried to build it up on the swatch and on my eye when I tried it out but I couldn’t get many of the sparkles to transfer. It’s a nice shade for a smokey eye, and I’ll probably try it with a black cream base underneath to see if I can get it to perform any better. It does, however, still feel smooth and buttery, and while it’s not one of my favourites in the palette I still do really like it.

Note: I used a flat brush to apply the swatches and I did clean it with a makeup brush cleanser wipe between so it may have been slightly damp for a couple of the swatches but it was dry most of the time.

all shadows were swatched with the same flat brush with no primer

One thing that I did want to mention about this palette is the pans; the pans in my Venus palette are all secured deep in the packaging whereas I feel like this one seems a little more uneven and some seem more popped out that others, which makes me worry one might fall out one day. Other than that slight issue I really do love this palette, I still love the original Venus palette like a first child but this is a close second!

The palette was made in the USA, vegan and cruelty-free!

Here’s 2 looks that I created using the palette:

NOTE: I am aware of the controversy surrounding Lime Crime, but I have no personal experience with that so I cannot form an opinion. I ordered this from Love-Makeup and it arrived very quickly, this is my first ever Lime Crime product but I will definitely be grabbing some more items from them!

Thanks for stopping by, see ya next time! ♥
